For almost 10 years, I was a Singles pastor at my church.

During that time, my messages often circled key biblical themes such as saving sex until marriage.

At around this time, a movement began for high school kids called True Love Waits. It was so big that a year after the campaign started, more than 210,000 cards were signed by teenagers who pledged

abstinence, and these cars were displayed at the National Mall in Washington D.C.

Every major news network covered this treatment.

In 1993, the year that True Love Waits was launched, the focus was on abstinence. The message is not about being a good person or doing good things. It was about experiencing true love and no one displays true lover better than Christ Himself.

True Love is a message of grace, hope, and forgiveness. It’s about bringing people to accept the beneficial effects of purity. Whether young people have been obedient to that or not, it’s about turning one’s life around. It’s about obeying God’s Word and doing what He wants out of our relationship with Him.

Recently, there was a disturbing study from which suggested that 61% of Christians were willing to have sex with no strings attached.

Similarly, a 2011 Relevant magazine poll claimed that 80% of “young, unmarried Christians have had sex” and that “two-thirds have been sexually active in the last year.”

This is contrary to God’s best. God’s commands are always to protect us and to help us.

The True Love Waits ministry now has a new video-drive Bible Study that you should take a look at.
