The Olympics are suffering as so few people are following it as compared to the past.
My wife and I have ignored this year’s Olympics.
We are tired of the politics and anti-American display by some of the athletes.
I’ve been to the Summer Olympics and watched it on tv in the past…and loved it.
But not now.
My wife has been even a greater fan. She has been to every Olympic games since Atlanta – Greece, England, South Korea, China…but not now.
But one of the big takeaways from past Olympics are the athletes glorifying God and being a witness for Jesus Christ.
I was excited that a 24 year-old South African Tatjana Schoenmaker swimmer wore a swim cap “Soli Deo Gloria.”
And she won an Olympic gold for the women’s 200-meter breaststroke.
Her cap drew international attention. Soli Deo Gloria means “Glory to God Alone”.
The cap also had the fish – an ancient Christian symbol. The Greek word for “ichthys” is also translated as “Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior.”
Tatjana often posts Christian posts on Instagram.
Recently she said on her way to Tokyo:
“Father God, May your will be done.
May your peace fill us up.
May we praise you no matter what the outcome…
May we be empowered by your strength to give it our all and may we forever be in the awe of your goodness.”
