President Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders and other socialist politicians want to send everyone $2,000.
They are ignoring economic reality.
Of course, on the surface this sounds great. Who doesn’t want free money?
Why not get more money in your pocket?
But is it really the function of the federal government?
Is it really something that should be done for the economy?
What are the consequences if we do it?
And we have to ask – is it really the moral and the right thing to do?
If not, what is the alternative?
Congressman Tom McClintock is one vote opposing this…along with hundreds of economists. Tom is one of my favorite congressmen who should have been California’s governor or senator.
His insight and courage is always appreciated.
Here is what Tom McClintock said about the $2,000 stimulus check…see if you agree:
“Let’s get this straight: the small shopkeeper who’s just lost their entire savings because of the lockdowns will get the same $2,000 grant as the government bureaucrat who’s been enjoying a steady paycheck at home for the past ten months.
“This money is wholly inadequate for those who have been harmed by the lockdowns and wholly unnecessary for those who have not. And this free money doesn’t come from heaven – it comes from the future earnings of those who will be struggling to get back on their feet – making the post-lockdown recovery more difficult and prolonged.
“Much of the burden of this debt will fall on the young, who have already borne the brunt of the lockdowns. It is in a very real sense, a massive wealth transfer from the future to the present, from the young to the old and from those who have been hurt by the lockdowns to those who have not.
“There’s only one way to end the suffering caused by the lockdowns. END THEM.”
I agree with Tom McClintock. What we need to do is stop the lockdown, grow the economy, and let the private sector create income and wealth. Government can only take and redistribute.
The private sector is sustainable because it creates wealth – it doesn’t take it.
Jobs are created. Wages rise. Opportunities increase. And entrepreneurs flourish. It’s economic wealth creation, which raises everyone’s standard of living.
And, it’s not right…it’s not moral…to forcefully steal – to legally plunder – from some and give to others.
$2,000 stimulus checks? No.
