President Obama has issued a new executive order that requires Christians, Christian groups and Christian ministries to have no management restriction on transgendered or homosexual lifestyles in their organizations.
It applies to federal contractors.
In fact, religious charities and faith based organizations performing social services for the government are impacted.
Christian colleges that provide financial aid to students are impacted.
Besides students at Christian colleges, just look at a few more examples of its impact:
- Prison Reform helps inmates turn their lives around, but they receive federal funding. The funding will not continue unless the organization compromises its religious values.
- World Vision provides food and shelter for kids in desperate situations. This organization also receives federal funding that will not continue unless it compromises its religious values.
Faith leaders pleaded with Obama not sign this… he ignored them. This includes the National Association of Evangelicals, Pastor Rick Warren, Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America and even Obama’s “spiritual advisor,” Pastor Joel Hunter.
The executive order bars all federal contractors from discriminating on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity—with no religious exemptions.
This order impacts about 24,000 companies and their 28 million employees—including Christian groups.
The order will result in an avalanche of lawsuits as homosexual activists demand special favors.
Officials from World Relief, Christianity Today, Catholic Charities USA, Institute for Religion and Democracy and other denominations signed a letter begging the president to exempt them.
Here is part of what they said:
“In a concrete way, religious organizations will lose financial funding that allows them to serve others in the national interest due to their organizational identity. When the capacity of religious organizations is limited, the common good suffers.”
The Catholic bishops were upset. They blasted Obama’s order as being “unprecedented and extreme.”
Robert George, vice chairman of the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom said:
“Barrack Obama declared war on the Catholic Church and the people of other faiths who hold to traditional beliefs about marriage and sexual morality. We must defeat the enemies of conscience—at the ballot box—not only to protect our own freedom… but also to protect the interests of those served so well by faith-based institutions. This is a war and we must win for their sake as well as our own.”
This overreaching executive order is part of a growing list of laws not passed by Congress but dictated by the president as he increases the power of the presidency unlike any other in U.S. history.
The U.S. Constitution protects religious freedom but the president’s order ignores it.
The president now has ordered that the only way a Christian or Christian group can work with the U.S. government is to deny their Christian beliefs and values.
This is what the founders of America fought to stop and prevent specifically through the First Amendment.
Prayer Point: Pray that an exemption is made and no future attacks on people of faith are made.
