Joy Villa is an American singer and songwriter who began performing at the age of 5 … and acting at the age of 10.

Like many aspiring actors and musicians, her life began spiraling out of control in her late teens…

She thought she had met the man of her dreams at the age of 19 … but when he began using drugs he became violent and abusive…

Joy’s self-image took a nosedive…

She thought she didn’t deserve to be loved … or to be happy…

She thought it was her fault that she was being physically abused…

And then she found herself pregnant at the age of 20.

A nurse at the clinic where she took the pregnancy test pressured her to have an abortion…

“We can do it now, it’ll make it all go away,” the nurse told her. “You are too young to have kids. This is the best choice for you.”

Joy had never considered abortion before…

She left the clinic confused … deflated … heart-broken.

After more physical abuse by her baby’s father, Joy made the most important decisions of her life…

She left the abusive relationship … carried her baby to term … and gave her daughter up for adoption.

It was an open adoption – meaning that Joy would be able to be involved in her daughter’s life as she grew up.
