Antifamily Legislation
Sacramento watch
Beware: The liberal
legislature in Sacramento is hard at work. As they
expand government and control our choices, little by
little we
lose our freedoms. Here are a few of the antifamily liberal bills we need to watch:
Spank a kid, go to jail—the nanny state
expands
Liberal Assemblywoman
Sally Lieber (the second most powerful Democrat in
the
Assembly) is trying to pass legislation that would
make spanking a child under
4 a misdemeanor punishable by up to 1 year
in jail...or a fine up to $1,000.
The Democrat said, “I
think we ought to have a law against beating
children.”
Newsflash: There are
laws against beating children. Child abuse is already
illegal. We don’t need a new law.
The truth is, spanking is
not
abuse. It’s what most Christians believe is right for
parents to do and is supported by the Word of God.
This legislation is typical
of the liberal mentality of
taking away parental rights and micromanaging the
family.
Can you imagine the
nightmare of people turning in parents to the state for
“spanking” their child? Can you imagine the damage
done from separating a child from a parent for 1
whole year?
This legislation will clog
the courts,
make lawyers rich, divert police, explode a huge
bureaucracy and be another assault on a free
society.
If passed, the next step
would be to stop, by law, all spanking for all ages.
The governor might sign
this bill if passed. He points out he has never
spanked his kids.
The liberal politicians
want to violate our rights, prevent us from obeying
God’s word, remove Biblical standards from our
homes and basically create a parental
nightmare.
There is a difference
between child abuse and parental authority. Most
parents get it right...and the kids are better
off.
Bottom line: God gave
children to the parents, not the state.
Parental rights vs. the states
Assemblywoman Lieber
is also sponsoring Assembly Bill 16. It requires
young
girls to be vaccinated with the drug GARDASIL®
before
they enter middle school.
GARDASIL vaccinates
against the human papilloma virus (HPV)—a cause
of most cases of cervical cancer.
Cervical cancer kills
about 3,700 women per year in the United States. The
drug is reportedly safe, but does have side effects.
The total cost for three doses is about
$360.
I have
no problem
making this drug available if a parent wants his or her
daughter to receive the vaccine.
That’s a parental right.
However, I’m opposed to
Lieber’s
nanny-state philosophy, which usurps parental
authority and forces a parent to allow mandatory
vaccinations as a requirement to go to
school.
It's also important to
mention HPV infections are only caused by sexual
activity, not casual contact like polio and other
diseases that require mandatory vaccines.
The bottom line is that
parents should raise their kids, not the state.
Some also oppose this
bill because it undermines abstinence. Others want
to see if there are long-term side effects. I agree with
both of these arguments.
Let the parents
decide.
