Church: McCain's Win? |
|
Evangelical scorecard tipped at church
debate
Evangelical
voters showed their pleasure with both presidential
candidates at Pastor Rick Warren's Presidential forum
last weekend...but McCain's race was probably helped
much more. Without a doubt, the crowd applauded
everything McCain had to say. And his applause was the
loudest.
On the issues of
abortion, marriage and a Christian worldview, McCain was
able to provide a crystal-clear contrast on his position
vs. what Obama said about
his. Although both
senators began by revealing their faith, Obama did so
with more substance. McCain just said he was "saved and
forgiven."
Here are a
few highlights:
Abortion. When asked: When does life
and human rights begin?
Obama: "Whether you're looking
at it from a theological perspective or a scientific
perspective, answering that question with specificity is
above my pay grade."
Then he said he was prochoice,
for Roe vs. Wade. Pastor Rick did ask if there was any
prolife legislation he voted for or authored....which he
ignored. Of course, he never
has.
McCain: "At conception."
He went on to say he is prolife and would be a prolife
president.
Marriage. Obama did a great job on this
one.
He simply stated that he
believes marriage is between a man and a woman.
Unfortunately Pastor Rick let this one go.
Obama opposes Proposition 8 and has
supported every move to redefine
marriage.
McCain said he
believes marriage is between a man and a woman. Pastor
Rick did ask McCain about Proposition 8 and McCain said
he supported it.
Judges. Pastor Rick asked which Supreme
Court justices would neither have nominated. Obama:
"Clearance Thomas (a strict
constructionist)."
McCain:
"The ACLU's Ginsburg...and also Souter and Stevens...the
liberal judicial
activists."
Obama's
aggressive outreach to win Evangelical votes is designed
to turn 20% to 30% of the Evangelicals away from McCain
and to win young Evangelical votes. For this strategy,
Obama's performance may have been
helped.
But McCain's
statements will help Evangelical leaders, pastors and
Evangelical voters reluctantly accept voting for him as
they compare him to Obama's liberal, radical
views.

| Homeschooling Legalized in
California |
Unanimous appeal ruling works miracle against
judicial activists
Praise God, there is good news for
homeschooling!
After judicial activist judges basically outlawed
homeschooling in California, a reversal has occurred on
appeal. The
California Court of Appeals ruled unanimously that,
"California statutes permit homeschooling as a species
of private school
education." Do
you think this will put to rest the uncertainly of
homeschooling in California? Email me at craig@electionforum.org.

| Thousands of
Christian Youth Pray, Fast for
America |
|
Youth congregate in nation's capital for
TheCall This
week, I had the pleasure of being smack-dab in the
middle of about 5,000 Christians who had gathered in our
nation's capital. But the multitide hadn't gathered for
a concert. They had not traveled for miles to be
entertained.
Instead, Christians came to the
capital to pray and to fast at TheCall, a
multicultural, multiracial, multigenerational and
cross-denominational gathering to incorporate prayer
with fasting.
I felt super blessed as I
saw young people--maybe 70% under 30-something; another
maybe 25% high school and college kids. And they were
not texting! They were praying and fasting for our
nation, to end abortion and to protect
traditional marriage.
What
got me to DC was parent orientation day
at American University--where one of my sons had
decided to go. Imagine my surprise when I came upon 12
hours of speeches, worship and intense prayer right in
front of the U.S. Capital
Building.
It was
wonderful being able to participate. Mike
Huckabee and Tony Perkins were among the
speakers.
But
mostly there were times of intimate, meaningful
prayer...people breaking into small groups or praying
individually.
Here's some of what I overheard:
- "God will raise up a multicultural, multiracial
movement of renewal."
- "Referring back to the book of Amos, if America
does not repent, God could release His protective
covering."
- "The next generation is our hope for renewal and
revival."
- "Do not vote for those who shed innocent
blood...those who want to legalize evil."
- "History will stand in judgment of those who
refuse to stand up on the fundamental truth of God's
Word."
- "Ending abortion is like Martin Luther King's
quest to end segregation and Wilberforce's campaign to
end slavery."
The media may
keep talking about young Evangelicals being
liberal...but clearly that was not the case
here.

| McCain Accused
of Calling Obama "The Anti-Christ" |
"Spectacular" video fingers
Obama Obama's
campaign messages, TV commercials and blogs are a buzz
about a McCain commercial that makes fun of how the
media is portraying Obama as a "Messiah" to save
America--I mean the
world. Good Morning
America, Time magazine, MSNBC and CNN have
all been harassing McCain about the
ad. Here's part of the
journalism reported by
CNN: "The ad, entitled
"The One," has been viewed 1.2 million times on YouTube.
A Google search for "Obama" and "AntiChrist" returns an
incredible 1,140,000
hits. One website is
completely dedicated to the question, "Is Obama the
Anti-Christ?" The site's online poll shows that 73%
responded either "yes" or
"maybe." But could the
McCain ad be saying the same
thing? Democratic faith
issues consultant Eric Sapp argues the McCain ads borrow
ideas and visual imagery from the blockbuster "Left
Behind" series. The
books weave a tale of a modern-day Anti-Christ, a young
political leader who rises to power with a message of
peace and unity and leads a world religion that
proclaims we are God.
That sounds a lot like this Obama clip used in the
ad." Here's what
Jerry Jenkins of "Left Behind" has to
say: "The Anti-Christ
will not be somebody who is suspected of being the
Anti-Christ by anybody.
"If half the country thinks that one of the candidates
is the Anti-Christ, he's not the
Anti-Christ." Click here to take a look at "The One" if you
haven't seen it.
What do you think? Does the
ad have hidden, sinister messages for Christians? Email
me at craig@electionforum.org. |

Money Pours In
To Defeat Proposition 8 |
Money to
defeat Protect Marriage
Initiative The
co-founder of WordPerfect software, Utah's Bruce
Bastian, has donated $1 million to the campaign against
Proposition 8. He is one of thousands of donors giving
money to defeat the Protect Marriage Initiative.
Bastian's contribution tops the $500,000 donation
made by Cleveland's David
Maltz. So far, two big
bankrollers from outside the state include:
- The Human Rights Campaign $570,000 (Washington DC)
- Mutual Gay and Lesbian Trust Force $200,000
(Washington DC)
- The California Teachers Association
$250,000

| McCain's Disavow
of Reverend Hagee |
|
Pastor sets McCain, media
straight A few
months ago, John McCain disavowed Pastor John
Hagee. The media took
sermons out of context and made it look like Hagee was
anti-Catholic and
anti-Semitic. He is
neither. Here is a statement in Pastor Hagee's own
words: "I have always
had a great love for Catholic people and great respect
for the Catholic Church. My wife comes from a Catholic
family and millions of my viewers are
Catholics. "I am shocked and
saddened to learn of the mischaracterization of my views
on Catholics that has spread while I spent the weekend
celebrating the 50th anniversary of my entry into the
ministry with family and
friends. "Throughout my
career I have been a strong critic of Christian
anti-Semitism. But any fair review of my record will
demonstrate that I have consistently criticized all
Christians--Protestant and Catholic alike--for the sin
of anti-Semitism. "In
fact, I rarely address this topic without castigating
the founder of Protestantism, Martin Luther, for the
horrendous anti-Semitism he spouted toward the end of
his career. "It is a
bitter irony that in my zeal to hold my fellow
Christians accountable for our past anti-Semitism, I now
find myself compared to an
anti-Semite." McCain's
refutation of Hagee was wrong and politically expedient.
It also shows how little McCain understands Evangelicals
and our beliefs.

| California's
Richest Shackled by State Tax |
Wealth taxes
out of control
California ranks #3 in the nation for high tax
rates. Most of this
burden unfairly falls on the wealthiest...the
entrepreneurs who create jobs and provide investment
capitol. In 2006, 14.1
million state tax forms were
filed. Of those, 1.9
million had gross incomes over $100,000. Comprising only
14% of the population, they paid 83% of the total
taxes. The
result of this rip-off?
- The wealthy leave California
- Jobs are lost
- Businesses leave California
- Businesses don't come to California
- The wealthy are better off spending, hiding and
avoiding income then properly using
it
Until tax
policies are reversed, California's suffering economy
will only worsen.

| Activist Judge
Penalizes Christian High Schoolers |
|
Course credits may get nixed by
colleges
All Christian high school
graduates are now at risk of not being accepted by
tax-supported public
colleges. U.S. District
Court judge James Otero recently ruled against Calvary
Chapel and Christian schools. Preferably, he ruled in
favor of the University of
California. The
judge said the University of California could withhold
high school credits earned by student applicants whose
Christian high school textbooks had a Biblical
worldview. His
reasoning? Otero said Christian educators left out
certain topics in science and history and did not teach
critical thinking. The
case will be
appealed. Click here to watch a short video reviewing
this decision.

| Why Americans
Are Dead Wrong About Cohabitation |
|
Living in sin not worth
it During my seven
years of teaching singles at my church, one issue I was
constantly confronted with during my ministry was the
issue of two people living together without
marriage--cohabitation.
Cohabitation is growing fast, with many Christian
singles, college coeds and career-age singles following
the media, society and sexual pressures to live together
to "test" a relationship to see if they are
"compatible." Today,
about 6.4 million couples are living together outside
marriage. Here
is what a recent Gallup Poll found:
- 49% believe cohabitation makes divorce less
likely.
Fact: This is wrong.
Those who
cohabitate have over a 46% greater divorce rate and
studies show the couples are far less happy in
marriage.
The reasons for this are complex,
but sexual involvement before marriage interrupts the
ability to communicate on a profound external level.
Sexual attraction short-circuits and overrides logic,
common sense and the ability to discern a right choice
from a wrong one. The
result is a nightmare: Intense sexual satisfaction and
strong bonding glue but to the wrong partner.
- 47% of those polled said living together doesn't
negatively impact their children.
Fact: All
studies show kids in cohabitation homes are more
likely to be physically abused, sexually abused,
suffer from school problems, depression, ADD and more.
There is less stability and nurturing in the
cohabitation environment.
It's up to Christians
to uphold marriage and teach our kids that God's way has
profound promarriage outcomes.

| Update:
Proposition 99 Proves Worthless |
|
Eminent domain threat a
reality Homeowners
and small businesses are again under attack by
government trying to grab their property to benefit a
private party and a social/political
agenda. This June,
voters turned down Proposition 98 to protect private
property and instead voted for Proposition 99. As you
may recall, Proposition 99 was put on the ballot by the
California League of Cities and
Developers. Now,
Proposition 99 is proving to be a farce, just as we
thought. For example, the cities of Vista and Baldwin
Park are using the worthless Proposition 99 to
confiscate private
property.
Proposition 99 claimed homeowners' protection
was "ironclad." False! Baldwin Park is now seizing over
100 homes this November.
|
| Beware the
California Teachers Association
Lie |
|
CTA spends millions
on lie The
California Teachers Association (CTA) is using its dues
from teachers on a multimillion dollar campaign that is
an outright lie. You may
have seen the TV or radio commercials urging you to
pressure Sacramento politicians to "protect schools" by
adopting a budget to increase school spending...and
therefore your taxes.
The campaign focuses on "soft" tax lawmakers, a smart
tactic combined with professional
ads. Here is the
big budget lie propagated in the radio and TV
ads: "Governor
Schwarzenegger's current plan would cut education
again--by nearly $5
billion."
Fact #1: The governor's education
budget actually calls for nearly $12 billion more in
2008-2009 than the state spent in 2003-2004. That's 40%
higher, from $29.3 billion to $41.1
billion. Fact
#2: Student enrollment across the state is on
the decline.
Fact #3: Our drop-out rates and low
test scores are evidence that our school system is
failing the kids, parents, and
taxpayers. But the CTA
has opposed every beneficial reform: Charter schools,
vouchers, tax credits for private schools, removal of
incompetent teachers (tenure), reduction of over 50
state mandates on every school district, performance-
based teacher pay (not continuing educational credits),
opening teaching to the non-accredited and many more
options that would work.
The CTA is only interested in "teacher protection" and
more money with no
accountability.
Don't believe the lies.

County to
Church: "You Can Serve Alcohol, but You Can't
Pray" |
Deputy County Counsel forces congregants to
worship at home
Guatay Christian Fellowship has been leasing a
2,100-square-foot building since
1986. Guatay, which is
35 miles east of San Diego, has 782 residents. The
church is the only one in
town. But Eliot
Alazraki, the Deputy County Counsel of San Diego County,
says he will take legal action against the pastor if
worship services are held on church
grounds. The
congregants have been forced to hold services in their
homes. The
reason? Building permits. It seems that the
dwelling was approved as a bar, not a place of
worship. It'll take
$10,000 to get the permits changed, plus many thousands
more for environmental and regulatory studies.
Next would come the
appeal process--which could take
years. If you
live in San Diego County, please
complain.

| China's Miracle
Economic Growth |
Tax cuts proving to
increase GDP For
the past 19 years, China's growth rate has been
estimated to be at 10% a year. This is a tremendous
record, far better than the
U.S. So what does the
Chinese government get that we
don't? That
major economic restructuring is
possible. In
1978, Deng Xiaoping turned the economy from communism to
privatization, tax reduction and
entrepreneurship. By
allowing free markets to develop, Xiaoping:
- Established coastal economic zones
- Increased foreign investment
- Opened free trade
But one of the biggest
reforms was massive tax
cuts. In 1978,
total government revenue consisted of about 51% of the
GDP. By 1995, it had fallen to less then 11% of the
GDP...about the same as
today. That's about a
60% reduction in tax
rates. The Chinese
government witnessed one-fifth of all resources
shift out of its control and into the people's hands to
invest, save and grow jobs.

| Chinese
Government Oppression Goes for the Gold at
Olympics |
Beijing Olympic Games Worldview: Through A Glass
Darkly
Brothers and sisters in Christ are suffering under the
brutal Communist government of
China. President
Bush made this remarkable human rights statement last
week at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games opening
ceremony: "America
stands in firm opposition to China's detention of
political dissidents and human rights advocates and
religious activists. We press for openness and justice
not to impose our beliefs, but to allow the Chinese
people to express
theirs." But
what remains invisible are the ways in which China is
currently supporting terror and repression worldwide.
Take a look at these facts:
- Tibet: No Olympic team presence.
The country is nearly wiped out with no hope
for independence.
- Sudan/Darfur: An Olympic team was
represented by a repressive Islamic state that has
practiced genocide.
China arms the terrorists
who run the government, gives them credit, and vetoes
any effort to help the people in the UN.
Just
one more thing. China does get their oil.
- Burma: This repressive
dictatorship has killed thousands, including genocide
against Christians in Burma. China supports the
government, supplies weapons and vetoes all UN efforts
to help the people.
Oh, and China gets their
oil too.
- Zimbabwe: One-half the population
is starving to death.
But the Chinese
government supports
them.
Not to mention the Islamic
terrorist states like Cuba, Venezuela, North Korea, and
more.
Each proudly bowing
before the Chinese Communist/state capitalist power that
makes the world suffer while endangering human rights,
freedom and prosperity.

| California
Schools Grade "F" in Education |
|
One in three LAUSD students fails to
graduate Over the
last five years, spending for education has shot up 40%.
But according to the latest state calculations, some
24.2% of California students drop out of high
school. In Los Angeles,
the situation is even more bleak. While the state's
drop-out rate is a sad 24.2%, the L.A. Unified School
District comes in at a miserable
33.6%. This also means that
more than one LAUSD high school student in three never
earns a diploma. Despite
record school spending and highly paid staff and
teachers, our schools are failing in their most basic
responsibility: Teaching our kids and preparing them for
a successful future.

Feedback |
Your Explicit Responses to
McCain's VP
Pick
Reality Alert readers flooded
our mailbox in response to our recent survey on McCain's
choice for VP. The bulleted lists are just a few of your
comments. If Senator John McCain
chooses a conservative vice presidential running mate
acceptable to Evangelical Christians, who would you vote
for?
- 5 registered voters at our house would vote for
McCain if he chooses Mike Huckabee!
- I'm praying that Mike Huckabee will be John's
running mate. Together, they would have most of the
Christian votes.
- My husband and I will only vote for Senator McCain
if he chooses someone like Mitt Romney for VP.
- Senator McCain: You desperately need to choose a
conservative VP. Please--for the sake of America.
- I will vote for McCain regardless of who his
running mate is. He is a far better option than either
of the extremely liberal Democratic candidates...
- Without a conservative vice president, McCain is
not an option.
- Senator McCain might get my vote with an
Evangelical VP choice but I'm not sure who that would
be.
- Only if he chooses Mike Huckabee.
- We need to get back to the moral foundation that
our Founding Fathers based this country on. Less
political correctness and more moral rightness.
- Under no circumstances would I ever vote for a
ticket with Mitt Romney on it.
Who would you vote for if Senator John
McCain chooses a moderate or liberal vice presidential
running mate?
- It would be very disappointing if Mike Huckabee is
NOT chosen as vice president and difficult for
America.
- I would vote for a Republican no matter what, but
a lot of Christians would stay home rather than vote
for a pro-choice candidate.
- If the running mate is Mitt Romney, I won't vote
for McCain. If the running mate is pro-choice, I won't
vote for McCain.
- I would like him to be a true conservative;
looking to God's word for direction of our country!
- I would most likely hold my nose and still vote
for John McCain. I can't imagine him choosing to the
left of the Democratic candidates.
- In the past, the more conservative we were, the
more strength we had as a nation. I personally believe
we had God's favor. More liberal, less favor.
- Yes because the alternative is to strengthen
either Obama or Hillary. I will be a very unhappy
camper however, and will not work locally.
- I am undecided at this point. If he is wise, he
will choose a very conservative running mate.
- Most likely third party, might not vote for
president at all but would go to the polls to vote for
other candidates.
- As long as the running mate is "pro-life" and
against abortion.
Do you have a favorite
candidate as John McCain's running
mate?
- Senator Sam Brownback would be the next best vice
presidential choice after Mike Huckabee. God Bless
America!
- I would vote for McCain regardless of whom he
selects as a VP, without reason. Condi would be great,
but she wouldn't accept. In that case, go for Romney.
- I also like Thompson and Huckabee.
- Romney has proven successful in the business
world, and our nation's economic future will likely be
a major issue this election.
- I pray that God will guide him to make the right
decision--if he actually prays for guidance.
- If McCain picks Romney he'll get my money as well
as my vote.
- I would really prefer Huckabee for the VP spot,
but I could live with another choice. No way Mitt
Romney, if he is on the ticket, I'll vote for
democrats.
- Huckabee is my first choice. My second
choice--J.C. Watts--is not listed. If either Romney or
Giuliani are his VP candidates, I might even vote for
the Democrats.
- The only way I am voting for and supporting John
McCain is if he chooses Mike Huckabee as his running
mate. Otherwise, I'll be voting for Bob
Barr.

Do You
Think Proposition 8 Will
Win? |
In June 2000, 61.4% of California voters passed
Proposition 22.
Republicans turned out to vote in the Primary between
McCain and Bush. Many Democrats stayed home because,
basically, Al Gore had already won the nomination.
Total turnout
then was 54%. It's expected this presidential race will
bring out about 76% of all voters.
But this November, it's
a different dynamic that will require pastors and church
leaders to register their congregation to vote, educate
their congregation and then motivate their congregation
to vote for Proposition
8. What do you think?
Will Proposition 8 win? What is your church doing? Let

Taxpayer Money Siphoned to Radical
Left-wing Homosexual

Remember the "First 5
California" program back in 1998 that put an extra $0.50
tax on cigarettes? Today
about $580 million is collected
annually. California
Resource Institute has pointed out that $500,000 of this
money is going to the L.A. Gay and Lesbian Services
Center. |
| Poignant Thoughts from a Reader on Having a
Coalition of Beliefs for the Biblical View of
Mmarriage |

"We need to constantly remind our pastors to get out
into the community and educate local people about the
biblical view of marriage. For too long pastors have not
been willing to fight or even acknowledge the radical
homosexual lobbyists'
influence. "For over ten years
I've been talking with pastors about this issue. They
give hundreds of transparent excuses as to why they
don't discuss this issue from the pulpit or write
articles to the local paper or attend school board
meetings. "It is shameful.
Instead, pastors retreat inside their churches not
wanting to "offend" anyone. Then the issue is
sidetracked and they discuss "global outreach" rather
than influencing their local community.
"Isn't it ironic the same apathetic
pastors who cower in fear when confronting this issue
are the same ones who may be compelled by state law
(after the four rogue judges on the California Supreme
Court have forced homosexual marriages down the throats
of Californians) to marry homosexuals in the very
churches they hide inside?"

Lawsuit Hopes to Stop Money- Hungry
City Government, Unions
We reported on the L.A./Long Beach harbor port tax
imposed by city government. (See "Villaraigosa Is Destroying the L.A.
Harbor" from a past
issue.) The
city/union power grab would guarantee the monopolized
use of union trucks...throwing thousands of independent
truckers out on the street.
Fees would skyrocket, further devastating our
economy and stealing money from our
pockets. But there is a silver
lining. I'm glad to report the American Trucking
Association has filed suit to stop this power
grab. |

On Dr.
Dobson's radio commentary, pointing out Obama's liberal
distortion of sound Biblical
theology. |
|
"I
agree with Christian conservative Dr. Dobson. And that
is because I, like other Born Again Christians, have
discernment in determining truth and lies conveyed in
political rhetoric.
"Although Obama
claims to be a Christian, I adamantly believe that he is
not Born Again and thus does not have the Holy Spirit
residing in him. If he did, his political philosophy
would be aligned with the conservative and
Christ-centered Dr. Dobson.
"Furthermore, Obama would find homosexuality and
abortion repugnant, and would have begun seeking
membership in a Christ-centered church many years ago.
Moreover, if Obama were Born Again, he would also know
the difference between the Old and New Testaments. That
is, he would have an understanding of God's purpose in
giving humankind the saving grace of Jesus Christ as
delineated in the New Testament.
"Indeed,
Obama would be disastrous to our nation in all
respects." --Randy
"I totally agree with Dr. Dobson. He is a man of
God.
"Obama is a typical dirty politician
who says whatever will help him get elected. He
certainly does not believe in the God of the
Bible."

"Thanks for the info on Obama and
Dobson. I've heard some of it on Dobson's program,
but every time I hear Obama I can't believe how any
Evangelical can vote for him except to know that the
devil does blind the eyes and people do believe a
lie.
"God's
Word does say that in the last times even the very elect
will be deceived. Thanks again for all you are doing in
this battle for our faith. God bless you."

Is
Obama a Born Again Christian?
"Absolutely not! If it were not for God's truth, I would
still be a
lesbian." --Mary
