Reality Alert
News and Analysis from a Biblical Worldview
Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty (2 Cor. 3:17)

Dear Election Forum Friend,

As a Christian, you should be aware of the topics discussed in this issue.

Cutting through the omissions, distortions and bias of the liberal media, we look at key concerns impacting the church and your family.

I hope you'll forward this issue to your church friends and encourage them to subscribe FREE to Reality Alert.
In This Issue...

Obama's Deceptive Revision of Christianity

Obama campaigning as a Born-Again Christian

Obama has aggressively been seeking the Evangelical support.

He speaks our language and knows what we respond to--both positively and negatively.

And he has created an expensive, organized, active campaign outreach using Christian media.

Remember this campaign piece from the June 2 issue of Reality Alert?

The protein Laminin

    Here's what the headline says:

Faith. Hope. Change. Barack Obama for President. Committed Christian.

    Further it says:

"My faith teaches me that I can sit in church and pray all I want. But I wouldn't be fulfilling God's will unless I go out and do the Lord's work."

This is just one example of his Christian campaign pieces promoting his "Christianity."

But many Evangelicals, including Dr. James Dobson, have been troubled by his doctrines.

Let's look at some of these theological problems in Obama's beliefs.

Biblical Authority

One of the key doctrinal issues is the inerrancy of the Bible...that our world view is shaped by the infallible authority of Scripture.

Many passages in the Word of God state that homosexuality is a sin. One such passage is I Corinthians 6:9-11, which reads:

"Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders, nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

"And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God."

The key point is that it's not a pick and choose list. It's not that some sins are less sinful than others and God will overlook the less sinful ones. He won't.

The only way he overlooks ANY of our sins is by having them covered by the shed blood of his perfect sacrifice for all of our sins (yesterday, today and tomorrow), Jesus Christ. Lack of condemnation of homosexuality in the Sermon on the Mount is not a sign that it is not sin.

But, Obama prefers to treat the Bible like a buffet table, choosing not to select this portion of Scripture, saying that Biblical references on homosexuality are superseded by the Sermon on the Mount. And furthermore, that Romans Chapter 1 is an obscure passage so it should be ignored.

This Obama position may sound good to voters' ears, but it twists the truth for political expediency.

One Way to Heaven

God has provided salvation through Jesus Christ. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No man comes to the Father except through me." John 14:6

    Obama says:

"I'm rooted in the Christian tradition. I believe that there are many paths to the same place; a belief that there is a higher power, a belief that we are connected as a people."

All Should Come to the Saving Knowledge of Jesus Christ

The Word says in John 3:16:

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life".

    Obama says:

"I retain from my childhood and my experiences growing up a suspicion of dogma. And I'm not somebody who is always comfortable with language that implies I've got a monopoly on the truth, or that my faith is automatically transferable to others."

Jesus is Lord

Another basic Christian belief is the deity of Jesus. He is God incarnate. Jesus is God.

Obama says a partial truth, but is in error in a key area, leading to a works salvation and a lowering of the doctrine that Jesus is Lord.

"Jesus is a historical figure for me, and he's also a bridge between God and man, in the Christian faith, and one that I think is powerful precisely because he serves as that means of us reaching something higher."

As Christians, We Are Called to Evangelize

A core Christian doctrine is to "fulfill the Great Commission," (Matthew 28:18-20). And why? To save people from eternal damnation. In Ephesians 2:5, 6:

"...made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions--it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus..."

    But Obama says:

"This is something that I'm sure I'd have serious debates with my fellow Christians about. I think that the difficult thing about any religion, including Christianity, is that at some level there is a call to evangelize and proselytize.

"There's the belief, certainly in some quarters, that if people haven't embraced Jesus Christ as their personal savior that they're going to hell. I find it hard to believe that my God would consign four-fifths of the world to hell.

"I can't imagine that my God would allow some little Hindu kid in India who never interacts with the Christian faith to somehow burn for all eternity. That's just not part of my religious makeup."

As Christians, We Should Have Discernment

As Christians, we should search the Scriptures to see if what we are taught is true (Acts 17:11).

But is this what Obama did for 20 years at Rev. Wright's Church? A church where the teaching was Black Liberation Theology  espousing hatred, racism, socialism and anti-Americanism? Where was his judgment? Look at his close friends.

Readers, do you think 2 Timothy 3:5 applies here?

"...having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them."

Help Your Church and Friends Vote for the Protect Marriage Initiative

 One reader's experience

Recently, a reader sent our marriage flyer for Christians to everyone in her email address book. (To view the flyer on marriage, click here.) Here's the email message she had for her friends:

"This is the most comprehensive report on the Protect Marriage Initiative I have ever seen. The PDF file is wonderful and can be downloaded and taken to your pastor, Bible Study or small group. Everyone needs to read this report.

"I have met Craig and he has a special gift in the area of communicating truth as well as preparing churches for voting and citizen involvement. If you can have him come to your church, you won't be disappointed. He has spelled out the gravity of the marriage issue here in California. We are a pivotal state and we must pass this initiative.

"I pray you all will do everything you can to get this message out.

"Bookmark it, save it in a file, but don't delete it.

    In His Service,

    Kathy"

To send the flyer to your own list in text format, click here.

To send the flyer as a PDF or to print it, click here.

Here's one more reader comment about the flyer:

"Thank you so much, this information is excellent and informative. Thank God for you and everything you do--not even our own pastors explain what's going on. And I will pass this on and do what it says to do."

McCain in Favor of Saving Marriage; Obama Favors Redefining

McCain endorses Proposition 8; Obama opposes

Senator John McCain has endorsed reversing the California Supreme Court's flawed ruling on redefining marriage.

    He says:

"I support the efforts of the people of California to recognize marriage as a unique institution between a man and a woman, just as we did in my home state of Arizona. I do not believe judges should be making these decisions."

Obama is now officially opposed to overturning the judicial activism of the California Supreme Court that redefines marriage. Instead, Obama supports extending "fully equal rights and benefits to same-sex couples under both state and federal law."

    In his words:

"And that is why I oppose the divisive and discriminatory efforts to amend the California Constitution and similar efforts to amend the U.S. Constitution or those of other states."

Big Corporate Money Bankrolls Antimarriage Court Cases

Who's who among corporations funding Equality California

Equality California is a radical, well-funded homosexual activist group behind much of the legislation and court cases that are eroding individual freedom.

They are one of the leaders in the fight against the Protect Marriage Initiative.

In fact, they're largely responsible for the recent court petition to remove the November initiative from the ballot.

But who would fund such a group? Here are a few and their donated amounts:

  • AT&T--$250,000
  • Comcast--$50,000
  • Time Warner Cable--$50,000
  • California's Teachers Association--$10,000

Obama Flip-Flop: Israel or Palestine?

Senator's support wavers as time goes by

I've been researching thoroughly Obama's statements on Israel with some peculiar results.

First there was an old Obama who was sympathetic to the Palestinians.

Now, a new Obama has spoken before the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) in June.

"Jerusalem will remain the capital of Israel, and it must remain undivided," he said.

But the next day, emotions were stirred. The Arab world was livid and felt betrayed since Obama's comments indicated that Palestinians would have no claim to Jerusalem.

Then Obama said, "Well, obviously it's going to be up to the parties to negotiate a range of these issues."

    So much for "remain undivided."

On CNN, he said he supported a unified Israel. But regarding Jerusalem, he said, "My belief is that, as a practical matter, it would be very difficult to execute."

Then, the Jewish supporters were upset.

Morton Klein, President of the Zionist Organization of America, said, "With Barack Obama and his campaign watering down his statement for an undivided Jerusalem, one must question whether his initial remark was simply meant to mislead Jewish voters and Israel supporters by not stating his true beliefs on this issue."

In contrast, John McCain is a strong defender of Israel. Responding to Obama's statements, McCain said, "We should move our embassy to Jerusalem before anything else happens."

Defending Isreal's sovereignty, he added, "The subject of Jerusalem itself will be addressed in negotiations by the Israeli government and the people. Not the UN, Arab nations or the U.S."

What do you think? How important is it for us to support Israel and not allow Jerusalem to be divided? Email me at craig@electionforum.org
Obama's Faith-Based Initiative Trap

Federal funding differs from Bush

Reaching out to faith voters, Senator Barack Obama has proposed an alternative to expand and support federal money being distributed to faith-based institutions as well as those in the secular realm.

But with one crucial difference from that of President Bush.

Charities under Obama's plan will have onerous government oversight on hiring people of faith and restrictions on sharing the Gospel.

Most likely, these tax dollars will be used to promote the religious left political/social agenda, devoid of Christ.

Bob Barr Interview on The Glenn Beck Program

Christians look to libertarian in protest

A number of Christians who won't vote for McCain are looking at libertarian presidential candidate Bob Barr as a protest vote.

Recently, Barr was interviewed by radio talk show host Michael Graham on The Glenn Beck Program.

It's an interesting segment that runs about 5 minutes. Watch here.
Liar? Liar? Dobson-Obama Conflict Continues

Dobson's ire grows

Dr. James Dobson's controversy with Senator Obama continues to grow. (See our update article here.)

The liberal media has attacked Dr. Dobson for attacking Obama's liberal theology.

TIME Magazine noted that an anti-Dobson website was ready to be uploaded immediately once Dr. Dobson attacked Obama. When he did, up it went.

See Obama's Distorted Religious Views

Why does the senator have Christian support?

Here's part of Obama's talk about his unscriptural view of God's Word, the Bible, and politics.

Watch the 3 minute video here.

Should Dobson attack Obama for seeking the Christian vote and distorting the Bible to fit his own liberal views? And why do you think many Christians support Obama? Email me your thoughts at craig@electionforum.org.

Schwarzenegger Skips Out on Prayer

1st governor to miss Annual Prayer Breakfast

For the first time in the 17-year history of the Annual Capital Prayer Breakfast, a governor of California did not attend.

    Enough said.

Assault on Magazine's Religious Freedom

Publication incurs unfair legal bills

A Catholic magazine in Canada is watching its legal costs soar past $20,000 as it fights to defend itself against a human rights complaint made by radical homosexual activists.

The "hate speech" sited was opposition to homosexuality.

     Pray for this publication.

And expect this to happen here if the voters do not approve the Protect Marriage Initiative and elect promarriage candidates.
Rancho Palos Verdes: First Amendment Victory!

Dodson Middle School: Pro-life victory

In yet another rare case, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals has protected religious free speech.

Just last week the court reversed a previous trial judge's decision. The court said the Center for Bio-Ethical Reform free speech rights were violated when the Dodson Middle School in Rancho Palos Verdes forced them to move a mobile billboard display.

The billboard had enlarged photos of early-term aborted fetuses to show the kids the reality of abortion.

This is a big win for Christians wanting to voice opposition to the "politically correct" dogma taught in the schools.
Pastor Silenced: Readers Outraged

Take action to help pastor

Some readers were outraged over the guilty
conviction of the pastor who spoke out against
the sin of homosexuality--and was found guilty
of violating civil rights. Fined and ordered to
forever be silent, click here to read the story in last week's issue.

Readers wanted to know what they could do.

First, pray, campaign for and financially
support the Protect Marriage Initiative. This
assault on free speech and Biblical truth will also silence voices throughout the U.S. if the initiative fails.

Second, write to the Alberta government,
which created the Human Rights Commission.
Write to Alberta Premier Ed Stelmach and
tell him why you disagree with the decision:

Want Guaranteed Disaster? Socialize Oil

Government cause of gas price craziness

Oil prices today are high largely because:
  • The government and liberal groups have not allowed a new refinery to be built in the U.S. since the 1970s.

  • The government has forbid U.S. oil companies from drilling offshore or in ANWR, Alaska.

This government interference in the industry results in $5 a gallon in gas with prices that are only going to go up.

Liberal Congresswoman Maxine Waters of Los Angeles corrected herself for bluntly saying she favored socializing the oil companies, changing her words to: "Well, I can see that this congresswoman is going to favor nationalizing the oil companies and making sure the prices go down."

And like libral Congressman Maurice Hinchey said, "We [the government] should own the refineries. Then we can control how much gets into the market."

The problem of course, is that this is a denial of economic reality.

Socialism--government ownership of the means of production---has never worked.

It's inefficient, costly and lowers production and wealth. Yet these liberals somehow deny 100 years of socialist economic failure.

What we need is to open drilling and the building of new refineries. This could help slash gas costs in half.

The rest of the world isn't making the same decisions as the U.S right now. For example, both China and Cuba are drilling 60 miles off the Florida (yes, Florida!) coast.

Access to millions of barrels of oil would have thwarted today's high prices if only Bill Clinton hadn't vetoed a 1995 bill in Congress allowing drilling in ANWR. That's an estimated 10.4 billion barrels of oil resources. Now, every 20 gallons used costs you an additional $10 for this current craziness.

The only thing that will truly lower the price of gas is to allow the free market to work the way it was intended.
Reality Check: What is ANWR?

Americans clueless to oil reserve

Shawn Steel sent me this interesting picture of facts on ANWR.

See for yourself why we need to drill for oil and why ANWR is the perfect place.
Ron Paul's New Campaign

Ex-candidate works for free marketplace

Ron Paul has suspended his presidential campaign, but he will support and work for free market, constitutional candidates.

The Sound of Today's Music?

Billboard songs strike destructive chord

What are your kids or grandkids listening to?

A study of Billboard's Top 20 lists from February 29 to June 5 (the top 20 is made up of 50 songs) shows:

  • Six songs contain profanity
  • Seven refer to drugs and alcohol
  • Twenty-two contain sex-related content (stuff I won't print)
Continual Vigil for Christians in China

Your prayers needed

As we have noted, persecution against Christians is dramatically increasing. An example is 50 house church members were raided by the government.

Reader Response

Low Voter Turnout

"My experience has been that many Christians have said to me...'it's in God's hands...read your Bible...these events are the end of times. Moving forward to when Christ returns and my vote, one way or the other, will not matter.

John McCain does not share all of my values, and Washingon is corrupt. Whoever wins, it's God's will.'

"There are some who say they are Chritians who listen to the Liberal Left media and the empty, ill-informed rhetoric of an inexperienced Barack message of 'change' and want to believe he will bring soemthing 'good' to the country.

"They actually think you are off-the-wall to even discuss the subject of his lifetime radical associations and communist backers. Most have never heard the name George Soros or even know who MoveOn.org is or what/who it's comprised of...let alone the Wood Foundation, or Obama's connection to the Palestinian criminal who worked through recently convicted Chicago politico-connected Rezco.

"All of these radicals/criminals have groomed him for the Presidency for a very long time and made his meteoric rise possible.

"Barack kept a low profile during his one term in the Senate. The individual Internet donations that support his campaign are no more than many off-shoots and/or non-527 groups orchestrated to feed the cash machine in small amounts to comply with Campaign Finance Laws.

"Google 'the 45 Goals of the Communist Party', and visit Democratic Socialists of America (www.dsausa.org). Read what they are about. This is the organization of Pilosi, Jeffords, Waters, Waxman and other Democrats.

"MoveOn.org stated 'The Democratic Party is now ours.'"

--Carole

Voting Liberal

"I think the majority of Christians are so easily duped. They hear the right lingo and run with it. It's sad to see that some can be so swayed so easily, without researching the candidates or issues.

"Also, so many Christians have decided not to vote at all, as if the powerful God that they say they believe in can't, or won't, answer prayer. Oh they of little faith!"

--Christie

"No, I don't think Evangelicals will go liberal. McCain is very disapointing, however. Thanks for your work."

--Jean

 About Chuck Baldwin

"You need to take a serious look at Chuck Baldwin. Stop wasting your time with people and parties who do nothing but give lip-service to your values."

--Dewy

Editor's Note: We will be looking at Chuck Baldwin and Bob Barr as two alternatives for Christians to consider for President.

Ramadan in Schools

"Where the heck is the ACLU now?! Where's the California dad who didn't think his daughter should salute the U.S. flag because it mentioned God?"

--Terri

"Absolutely not! This is not the religion of our kids in school. This needs to be stopped."

--Sarah

"It's a shame that you  would teach a song like this. Our kids can't even pray, but you can teach songs like this. I am so glad that my child does not go there. I will make sure that this will get out to my clients."

--Michael

"I live in La Verne not far from Chino and I would fight tooth and nail for my children not to have to sing this. If some cannot pledge allegiance to our flag why should our children in our own country sing a song that refers to people who hate us?"

--Carol

"I do not agree with the Ramadan song. Are they going to let Christ back into Christmas?"

--A reader

On Marriage

"I always pray for all those in authority, even in other countries, that we (Christians) might live peaceable lives. Marriage is common to all people. It's not just a Christian phenomenon. Traditional marriage is normal for all human beings. That's why I promote the institution of marriage itself. It's a creation time ordinance."

--Rosalie

Editor's Note: Here's an interesting insight regarding same-sex marriage, legislation and the governor.

"The reason the current tact was taken, that of using the state Supreme Court, may be partially due to Schwarzenegger. I apologize that I do not recall exactly on which bill it was that his comments appeared, it may have been in 2007, but his brief comment in rejecting a bill noted the results of the popular vote rejecting same-sex marriage, and stated that the proper avenue for achieving such a result would be through the courts.

"In effect what Arnold was advising is that he supported the goal but as one who was subject to the same popular vote as the failed measure, he did not want to be accused of overriding the will of the people. He directed the activists to the safest means of achieving their goal without their bill causing damage to the careers of [in name only]Republicans who still rely on social conservatives as one of their cobbled-together patchwork of support.

"This makes me wonder how many of this state's elected conservatives share Arnold's sentiments, simply waiting to flip-flop as soon as they believe the scales have tipped such that they can achieve reelection without social conservatives."

Factoid About the Mortgage Mess

A study of 3 million mortgage loans made from 1997 to 2006 found that as many as 70% of early defaults involved some kind of fraud by the borrower--whether in overstating income and assets or by gaming the appraisal system.

Facts You Should Know:

  • 63% of youth suicides are from fatherless homes. [U. S. DHHS Bureau of the Census]
  • 90% of all homeless and runaway children are from fatherless homes.
  • 85% of all children that exhibit behavioral disorders come from fatherless homes. [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention]
  • 80% of rapists motivated with displaced anger come from fatherless homes. [Criminal Justice and Behavior, Vol. 14 p. 403-26]
  • 71% of all high school dropouts come from fatherless homes. [National Principals Association Report on the State of High Schools]
  • 85% of all youths sitting in prisons grew up in a fatherless home. [Fulton County, Georgia, Jail Populations and Texas Department of Corrections, 1992]
  • Nearly 2 of every 5 children in America do not live with their fathers.

Reflection

"I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone--for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.

"This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a  knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all men--the testimony given in its proper time."

1 Timothy 2:1-6
Quote of the Month

"First, if I may, I'd like to establish the scope of the topic under discussion. For when we speak about the economy, we're dealing with more than mere numbers, more than statistics about productivity and employment. We're dealing instead with one of the most basic aspects of human existence:

"We're dealing with the way the great majority of men and women spend most of their hours, most days, throughout the most productive years of their lives--I believe it's important to remind ourselves that in dealing with the economy we're dealing with human creativity.

"This insight has represented the underpinning of our economic expansion. We cut tax rates, reduced government regulation, and restrained Federal spending; and we unleashed the rewards of their own risk-taking and hard work; and to reach for new, bold ideas."

--Ronald Reagan

Two Provocative Thoughts from a Reader

"I honestly do not believe God is still on the throne; at least not sitting down. I believe that He is standing, and looking at what the Church in California is doing, or not doing.

"I believe that He is looking for faithful people, who would be salt and light to our lost neighbors and communities, and He is also looking for people who will uphold the standards that He created, such as marriage.

"The argument should never be whether God is on the throne, or whether He got knocked off the throne, like 'poor God, he fell off the throne, and so now it's up to us to act.'

"Being the Creator of all things, and whether sitting or standing, it is up to Christians to act, and do, as His hands and feet and His representatives on earth. Failing to do so, we deceive ourselves."

Are You Mainstream?

"To 'go with the flow' or to be 'mainstream' is easily done with dead carcasses. This thought came to me the moment I read the following quote from G.K. Chesterton:

'A dead thing can go with the stream, but only a living thing can go against it.' - Excerpt from Everlasting Man, 1925

"The only thing that we must be dead to, is sin, and 'he who knows how to do good, and does not, sins'.  Therefore, being 'mainstream' is as easy as being dead."

--Paul

Rohrabacher Is Right!

"I have no doubt that unless we thwart the onslaught of nonsense being foisted upon humankind in the name of man-made global warming, the next generation will be deprived of freedom, prosperity and a healthy environment."

--Congressman Dana Rohrabacher
Oil Facts the Media Doesn't Tell You
  • The average net profit margin for the oil industry was 8.3% in 2007. That's lower than other corporation industries. For example, Big Beverage is 19.1%. Big Pharmaceutical is 18.4%.
  • U.S. oil companies are actually small compared to the global market where they have heavy competition.
  • ExxonMobil accounts for only 3% of global production and 6% of global refinery capacity.

ACTION ITEMS

1. Pray for all of our leaders--for discernment and wisdom in their decisions; for courage in times of crisis; and for repentance where their behavior so requires. Also pray for the exaltation of God in our land, whose ways and Word have been ignored and despised. Pray for the judges in California who are deciding on the marriage initiative on the November ballot and on homeschooling issues.

4. Pray for our President, Congress, the Supreme Court and lower-level judges. Pray for wisdom and guidance at all government levels.

That's it for this week's issue of Reality Alert. I hope that you'll keep an eye open for my next issue, as I have so much more exciting information to share with you.
